Town of St. Paul AB
How cute is that little martian?
I think he’s very cute, but that’s just me. You may be wondering what he’s doing in St. Paul… well let me tell you.
St. Paul Alberta is the home of the world’s first UFO landing site!
In fact, the tagline for the town is: “St. Paul - A People Kind of Place”
There is a sign next to the UFO landing pad and it reads:
“The area under the World’s First UFO Landing Pad was designated international by the Town of St. Paul as a symbol of our faith that mankind will maintain the outer universe free from national wars and strife. That future travel in space will be safe for all intergalactic beings, all visitors from earth or otherwise are welcome to this territory and to the Town of St. Paul.”
So basically, everyone is welcome :) even these guys…
That’s something I noticed fairly quickly about the people of St. Paul, they are very welcoming and friendly. So far everywhere I’ve been people say ‘hello’ and are willing to help.
Just yesterday I visited the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) center where they give new residents of St. Paul a newcomer package with all kinds of great information, swag and coupons! Plus while I was there I got to talk to the friendly staff and was even offered some home baked goodies.
I stumbled upon the FCSS after going for my daily walks on the community walking trail which is 10km long. I’ve managed to do ½ of the trail so far.
P.S. the air is a little bit more fresh than it was in Hamilton, hehe!
Another thing I’ve noticed is everyone drives a truck around here… there are a few people with van’s and SUV’s. So far I have not seen another VW Jetta.
I just recently got my Alberta plate, yes plate, they only put one on the back of the vehicles here.
Oh, and I just noticed. In the photo below there is a reflection of my building on my car (probably because it’s so shiny, I took it to the car wash)!
It’s interesting how Alberta is the Wild Rose Country.
In May of this year, before I even knew I would be moving or working in Alberta, my sister bought me a Wild Rose EcoCube.
I kept the EcoCube in the office by the window and by the time I was ready to leave for Alberta the plant had 5 leaves :)
This plant has now been put into the custody of my good friend Zsuzsi who is hopefully watering it as needed!! Zsuzsi…?
The next part of the Wild Rose story is that my co-workers got me a charm for my bracelet of a Wild Rose and then I learned that Alberta is the Wild Rose Country (interesting coincidences).
So far, I’ve been really enjoying it out here. I’ve been cleaning, unpacking and receiving shipments for IKEA…
Which ultimately means, putting things together for hours, but it’s always a lot of fun.
My next post will be an exclusive post on Edmonton- as I will be there this next week for training.
Maria (p.s.s. missing you all!!)
